The FoodTech Next program is now open and accepting applications.

FoodTech Next is specifically designed to support early-stage Canadian technology firms in the food industry. It offers a platform for companies to showcase their innovative solutions and explore potential partnerships within the wider food industry. By participating in the program, eligible businesses can demonstrate and pilot their innovations in operational environments, validating their effectiveness and return on investment for the food sector. In the past, we have funded companies in areas such as purchasing analytics and robotics, autonomous vehicles, and AI.

To be eligible for funding, project proposals must meet the following criteria:

  • Canadian incorporated businesses with less than $1M in annual sales in their most recently completed fiscal year.
  • Post-farm gate solutions focusing on technology readiness levels 3 to 7.
  • Projects ending with system prototype demonstration in an operational environment (TRL of 7).
  • The program offers a significant financial boost, with matching funding of up to 50% of the total eligible project costs or $250,000 provided by the Canadian Food Innovation Network (CFIN).
